Our flight to Rwanda was long but that was expected. Sue was able to curl up into a ball in the sea and fall asleep with her head on my lap. I did not have that opportunity or ability myself so I stayed awake the full 30 hours.
We arrived In Kigali Rwanda at about midnight. I usually like to arrive places during the day so that I can see the land and the city as we come in, but it was spectacular still to see the city lights shining like another galaxy underneath us as we descended to the airport.
So far our time here has been indescribable. All I can say is that the people, the land, the sun, the views, the food, everything has been amazing.
We are staying at the YWAM base in Kigali. It’s more on the edge of the city so the base is surrounded by little shops and houses and one busy street, and walking distance to hills and farmland.
Sue and I are taking a class in a local café to learn to speak ikinyarwandan. We are picking up the language fairly quickly with the help of the friends we made here and are excited to be able to speak even more as we learn the ins and outs of getting around a new country.
I should mention on our first day here we visited Kimironko!
My first time there. We shopped around and bought a broom and some soap. The market was a beehive of activity with so many different fruits, fish, clothes, kitchenware, and snacks.
Needless to say we are having a great time here! The people are as warm and inviting as the climate.
