Kigali Genocide Memorial

The most amazing travel experience I have ever had was visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial. In the center of a beautiful, clean, growing city is this representation of a horrific past. Anyone who has been to Rwanda in the past few years can attest to the beauty of it’s capitol city. It’s hard to imagine that the images that are shown in this memorial are of the same place.

It is an absolute must see if you are in East Africa at all. If you don’t get the chance to visit, you can still be informed and see some incredible media on thier website.

There is no entrance fee, you can pay for an audio tour that costs about $15 USD. With or without the audio it is an incredible experience. Outside of the memorial itself there are mass graves and a beautiful garden just outside where you can sit and reflect. The memorial is in the center of the city and can be easily accessed by public bus or by walking.
